That's true but later in show when they talk about Richard and Monicas relationchip they say that richard don't want to have children. In fact he said so him self later when they get back togheter he says: Nothing has change you still want kids and i don't.
Monica and Richard didn't stay together because Richard didn't want to have children. "I don't want to be 70 when our lives can finally start" he says.
